Coozie Original Edition is a limited-edition designer vinyl sculpture by American artist Nathan Ota, created in collaboration with 3DRetro.
The figure was first presented at DesignerCon 2017 before becoming more widely available in early 2018. It stands approximately 20–21.5 cm / 8–8.5 in tall when displayed with its removable tree-stump base and was produced in a strictly limited edition of 350 pieces worldwide.
Coozie is one of Ota’s recurring characters: a mysterious half-boy, half-tree figure that appears throughout his surreal forest paintings. In the sculpture, Coozie sits directly on a low tree stump, creating the impression that the character and the tree are beginning to merge into a single form. The stump can also be removed, allowing the figure to be displayed separately.
The name Coozie has a personal connection to Ota’s earlier graffiti practice. During his graffiti years, the artist used the tag “COOZ,” and the character’s name developed from that earlier identity.
The Original Edition uses the natural brown, green, and muted forest tones associated with Ota’s paintings and the character’s appearances in his art book Ikiru. This OG colorway is the first standard production version of the sculpture and should be distinguished from later variations such as the Pink Love Edition.
Produced in vinyl and originally supplied in a window box, Coozie sits at the intersection of contemporary illustration, painting, street-art culture, and designer toys. Its relatively small edition of 350 makes the Original Edition especially appealing to collectors of Nathan Ota and 3DRetro releases.
A strong collectible for admirers of Nathan Ota, 3DRetro, designer vinyl, surreal illustration, forest-themed art, character sculpture, and limited-edition art toys.
