Hroin Tic Tac Toe* is a limited-edition gelatin silver photograph by Dutch photographer Paul Blanca, created in 1997.

The work measures 50 × 30 cm / 19.7 × 11.8 in and is supplied unframed. It was produced in a small edition of 12 numbered examples plus 2 Artist’s Proofs, making it a particularly limited work within Blanca’s photographic output.

Each print is hand-signed, titled, numbered, and dated by the artist on the front, an important collector detail that distinguishes the work from unsigned or later reproductions.

Executed as a traditional gelatin silver print, the photograph reflects Blanca’s preference for direct, high-contrast black-and-white imagery. His work is often characterized by an intense psychological atmosphere, bodily confrontation, vulnerability, and a raw visual language that emerged from the Amsterdam art scene of the 1980s and 1990s.

The title Hroin Tic Tac Toe* suggests a collision between something playful and something destructive, a contrast that is consistent with Blanca’s broader practice. His photographs frequently place uncomfortable or provocative subjects within highly controlled compositions, creating images that are visually direct but conceptually open-ended.

The small edition size of 12 + 2 A.P. adds to the work’s scarcity. Combined with the artist’s handwritten signature, title, number, and date on the front, the print has the qualities expected of a carefully issued fine-art photographic edition.
