Pour son exposition de 2009 au Musée d'art de Reykjavik, Nara a présenté ses œuvres dans les caisses en bois qui les avaient transportées jusqu'au musée. Des tableaux étaient accrochés à l'extérieur des caisses, et des personnages se cachaient dans leurs recoins.

Yoshitomo Nara + YNG: The Crated Rooms in Iceland is a 2014 publication connected to Nara’s installation at Reykjavík Art Museum. The project was created in collaboration with YNG and Hideki Toyoshima, one of the founders of the design collective graf, and transformed the practical materials of transport into an immersive exhibition environment. 

Inside, the book documents the installation made from wooden shipping crates and billboards, placing Nara’s iconic images in a raw and unexpected setting. Within the crates, visitors encountered paintings, drawings, and sculptures by Nara, turning the exhibition into a temporary world of travel, storage, memory, and discovery.
