Marina Abramovic Turned Herself Into Art and Wasn’t Sorry. is an illustrated artist biography written and illustrated by Italian artist Fausto Gilberti and published by Phaidon.

Part of Phaidon’s Rebel Artists series, the book introduces younger readers to Marina Abramovic, one of the most influential pioneers of performance art. Abramovic is known for using her own body, endurance, physical presence, and interaction with audiences as central elements of her artistic practice.

Gilberti presents Abramovic’s unconventional approach to art through concise storytelling and bold illustrations printed primarily in black, white, and red. The book references some of her best-known performances, including works involving prolonged stillness, physical endurance, collaboration with Ulay, and the transformation of everyday actions into performance.

The hardcover volume contains 56 pages and 56 illustrations and measures approximately 21.5 × 21.5 cm / 8.5 × 8.5 in. It also includes a reproduction of Abramovic’s work and a short biographical section at the back of the book.

Fausto Gilberti created the Rebel Artists books to make contemporary art approachable and engaging for children. Other artists featured in the series include Banksy, Yayoi Kusama, Louise Bourgeois, Jackson Pollock, and Yves Klein.

A distinctive publication for admirers of Marina Abramovic, performance art, contemporary art, artist biographies, illustrated books, and Fausto Gilberti’s Rebel Artists series.
